The Adventures of Titch & Mitch: Shipwreckedis an excellent chapter book for the third grade level reader.  It offers quirky characters that second graders will love to read about and the plot triggers the imagination making children of this age want to keep reading to see what more fun adventures come along.

While the book is about a fun and whacky adventure of two young pixies, Titch and Mitch, the language might be challenging to comprehend for some third grade readers. The lesson of friendship will not go unnoticed by the third grade reader and they will love the characters from yellow seagulls to flying bicycles and talking turkeys. There is also a fairy, a hedgehog, and so much more.

Titch and Mitch are pixies, and although they were warned to stay close because of danger, they were adventurous. It was not unusual for the brothers to get lost or get stuck in funny situations. Third grade readers will love the adventure of being shipwrecked and of meeting all kinds of funny new friends in the process.

The illustrations offer additional entertainment and view into the storyline. The illustrations also serve to break up the text giving the struggling reader an opportunity to take a breath before diving into the rest of the chapter. The third grader reader will go 2-4 pages before coming on an illustration, which may be more difficult for low readers in this age group.

All in all this is a great book for stimulating a third grader’s imagination, increasing comprehension skills and improving reading skills for these kids. What reader wouldn’t love to be on an island with talking animals and pixies?

The Adventures of Titch & Mitch, Shipwrecked will keep the third grade reader turning the page so it is well worth adding to your classroom or home collection.
